TEMPLE OF APOLLO DAPHNEPHOROS

A Doric peripteral temple, richly decorated with reliefs that tell of battles with Amazons and Giants, was the present of Apollo to the citizens of Lilantio Plain, when he met them while they were searching for the place to build his oracle. Over the years, this temple, although it was destroyed and built anew several times, was one of the most important monuments of Eretria, as, together with its court, it was the religious centre of a city that interacted with the eastern Mediterranean.
