On untrodden peaks that reflect the sunset and the shadows of the bountiful valleys, myths speak of the story of two brothers, Helicon and Cithaeron, who each became home to the Muses and the Furies, respectively, as well as of the stranding of Deucalion’s ark on Mt Parnassus, and the tragic fate of the hero Heracles on Mt Oeta.
The story continues with glorious ancestors, such as the Minyans or brave general Leonidas, who highlighted Orchomenus, Thebes, Thermopylae, and Delphi as major centres of the ancient world. Their successors on this long journey of history around Central Greece were the peoples (Romans, Byzantines, Franks, and Ottomans) who left their indelible mark on time with their cities, castles, monasteries, and mosques.
