TEMPLE OF APOLLO

A Doric peripteral temple with unsurpassed sculpted decoration, housed in antiquity the statues and offerings in honour of Apollo, as well as the archives of the of the Pythian Games Champions. In its sanctuary Pythia gave her oracles, while the olive trees surrounding it whisper the tale of the first temple, made from laurel branches, which was succeeded by one made from beeswax and feathers, and a third made from bronze, until the fourth was created, the work of architects Trophonius and Agamedes, guided by the god himself.
