MYCENAEAN ACROPOLIS OF GLA

The largest fortified Mycenaean acropolis in Greece marks Copais with its presence, bearing witness over the centuries to a renowned technical work of antiquity: the draining of its lake. A powerful Cyclopean wall encircled with its enormous boulders the homes of the officials overseeing the drainage works, as well as the warehouses with a capacity of 2000 tonnes. The acropolis was destroyed at around 1200 B.C. and it was never inhabited since.
