Surrounded by a dense pine and fir forest, in a beautiful natural landscape, Hosios David Monastery reflects the light of its founder, one of the teachers of the Modern Greek Enlightenment during Ottoman Rule. Although burned by the Ottomans in 1824, thus losing the valuable imperial titles with which it had been honoured during the Byzantine period, it was rebuilt in 1877 and still tells of the miracles of Saint David.
