The Metropolitan Cathedral of Evangelismos (Annunciation of the Virgin Mary), which faithfully follows Byzantine tradition, holds a special place in the heart of Amfissa. Painter Spyros Papaloukas crafted the wonderful hagiographies that decorate the interior of the Cathedral over six years of continuous work (1927-1932), using the intricate method of anthivolo. Using paper and coal dust, Papaloukas created icons capable of preserving the aesthetic imprint of contemporary artistic trends of the 20th century.
