CHURCH OF AGIA PARAKSEVI-CHALKIS

At the centre of the Kastro district in Chalkis stands the magnificent medieval three-aisled basilica of Agia Paraskevi, the patron saint of Chalkis. An ancient temple received its foundations and Byzantine times left their mark on it. The Venetians reconstructed it in the 14th century, but the walls and decorations already had indelible Byzantine and Gothic elements, revealing the collaboration between Greek, Italian, and French craftsmen.
