ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF SKYROS

The Archaeological Museum of Skyros was built in 1963 and inaugurated ten years later. Currently it houses finds that date back to the early Helladic period and Roman times, from various locations on the island. A feature of the ceramics collections is the geometric compass from Attica with small, engraved horses on the cap. Architectural elements, sculptures, as well as sarcophagi of the Protogeometric and Geometric periods are on exhibit in the courtyard, while the museum is also home to the folklore collection of L. Kostiri, in the memory of her brother, archaeologist I. Papadimitriou.
