ANCIENT TANAGRA

Small female figurines made from clay, the Tanagraies, tell the story of a city with a very intense presence from Mycenaean times until Roman times. Sanctuaries and temples, an agora, and many public buildings defined Tanagra of the Classical times. The city was built according to the Hippodamian plan, while its art, especially its koroplasty, made it renowned throughout Greece.
