CASTLE AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF LAMIA

The medieval castle of Lamia dominates the hill of Akrolamia, overlooking the valley of Sperchios, the peaks of Mt Oeta, Mt Kallidromo, mythical Mt Othrys, Mt Parnassus, Mt Giona, and the shores of the Malian gulf. An impressive wall, built on the ancient fortification of the 4th – 3rd century B.C., with easily distinguishable interventions made by the Byzantines, the Franks, the Catalans, and the Ottomans, embraces it, drawing your gaze to a hill the story of which reaches back through World War II to prehistoric times.

The Archaeological Museum of Lamia is housed in an Ottoman barracks and through 12 thematic units exhibiting finds from the Neolithic era to Roman times, it highlights the rich cultural heritage of the land.
